UPDATE:  In May 2008, our group went and came back from Mt. Everest Base Camp in Nepal and it was fantastic!  We all had an amazing time, seeing things and people that you never get the chance to back home.  If anybody reading this is thinking of going, I would highly recommend it, the experience is beyond words.  The blog has more information on how our trip went, and some pictures to go along with it.  I can't wait for the next adventure!

Welcome to the Wiki for our NASA Mt. Everest Trek! We are very excited to bring you our experiences as we travel from the United States to hike to the base camp of Mt. Everest. Our group consists of 17 friends and family associated with Sabrina Singh (EVA flight controller for NASA/JSC) who is coordinating this trip. Our visit to Mt. Everest Base camp will roughly coincide with the summit bid by our friend and astronaut Scott Parazynski. For blogger information posted during our trip, please visit our Blog Site at http://nasaeveresttrek.blogspot.com/. You can also visit the OnOrbit/Everest blog at http://onorbit.com/Everest for more information on Scott's trip to the Summit.

**Everyone on this trip is using personal funds and vacation time**

Our travel begins April 25th and we expect to arrive back to the US on May 15.  If you would like to see the details of our trip, check out the Itinerary Page.  Our trek will take us from one climate to another.  At our starting point, the weather in Lukla will be much different than the weather at Everest Base Camp.

Of course, going to the Base Camp of Mt. Everest is no train ride.  Hiking at high altitude dictates having a strong cardio background leading up to the trek.  Our group has been exercising appropriately to prepare for the trek in order to maximize our comfort during the trip.  To see a sample of things we have been doing for exercise beyone our personal routines, see how we train like a Rocket Scientist.

Having the right gear on this trip is important.  You can check out the Gear List.

If you have any questions for any of us, you can email nasaeveresttrek@gmail.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.  Of course, if it is during our trip, we might not be checking our email:)  See our Blog during that timeframe.
